Vitamin E and Selenium Deficient Horses

While some areas have soils that are rich in selenium, many other areas have deficient soils. Consequently forages harvested from those areas will result in selenium deficiency in horses that consume them. Vitamin E concentrations in hay also decrease rapidly after harvest. By supplementing with antioxidants Selenium and Vitamin E, you can ensure your horse is getting the antioxidants needed to maintain optimal health.

  • Sophie

    Platinum Performance® client since 2010

“I started using Platinum Performance after Sophie, my 10-year-old Paint mare, came up lame. After months of x-rays and ultrasounds and no answers, my vet suggested we do a trace mineral blood test and a hay analysis. The results showed she was critically low in selenium. Within a matter of months, she was finally starting to feel good again. Sophie is a whole other horse now. I’ve showed her in reining and now we’re doing jumping and cutting. There’s nothing she can’t do. She feels great, and it shows.” — Ashley P.

“I use Platinum Performance Equine to ensure my show horses are in optimum condition. In west Texas, the soil is sandy and causes a lack of nutrients within our forage. With Platinum Performance, my horses will receive the minerals to perform at their best. I’ve seen improvement in their body and coat condition, as well as their recovery time between show” — Paul S.
