Tips for Traveling

Help your horse cope with the stress of traveling

  • • Never transport a sick horse long distances or one exposed to sickness.
  • • Supplement with an immune support formula a few days before travel.
  • • Try to travel less than 12 hours at a time.
  • • If possible, stop every 3 to 4 hours to offer rest — unload and allow the horse to briefly graze. If not, just stopping is beneficial to the horse, as he won't be forced to counter the movement of the trailer.
  • • Offer water every time you stop.
  • • Provide adequate airflow in the trailer for ventilation.
  • • Allow your horse approximately 2 to 3 days to recover after a long trip before expecting a great deal of activity.
  • Antioxidants for Immune Health

The results of several studies suggest that adequate availability of various antioxidants is essential to improving or restoring normal immune function.

  • Trinity

    Platinum Performance® client since 2012

“Trinity had an abscessed foot and was listless, her skin was flaky and her coat dull. My vet told me he would like to start her on Platinum Performance to help boost her immune system. He felt Platinum would help her overall recovery. We’re riding again. I highly recommend Platinum. In the 40 years or so that I’ve owned horses, I’ve never really been ‘sold’ on a supplement before. Thanks for a wonderful product.” — Denise B.

  • Ellie

    Platinum Performance® client since 2004

“My beloved Arabian mare, Desperelle (Ellie) is my constant companion and trail blazing mate. She was diagnosed with melanoma 3 years ago. At that time we put her on Platinum Performance to maintain her immune system and help her maintain condition. She looks and feels wonderful which I attribute to the Platinum products.” — Susan W.

Potential Exposure to EHV-1

Equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) is a viral infection in horses that can cause respiratory illness, abortion in late-term mares and EHM, the devastating neurologic form of EHV-1. An equine supplement that combines zinc, lysine and a blend of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and omega-3 essential fatty acids, can be fed to optimize health and support immunity in horses at risk of viral exposure.
