How We Started

Platinum Performance was developed at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in 1996 by Doug Herthel, DVM. Understanding the power of nutrition and recognizing a clinical need, Dr. Herthel, developed a formula that would help improve the quality and speed of healing bone and soft tissue injuries in his patients after orthopedic surgery. Word of Platinum Performance's clinical success began to spread to other referring clinics, then eventually across the country and to horse owners around the world.

Today Platinum Performance is a leading provider of the finest equine supplements and equine health education. The Platinum team values its close relationship with practicing veterinarians, olympic athletes, rodeo cowboys and horse lovers on the trail and in the arena.

Biological Approach to Healing

Dr. Doug Herthel is the father of an innovative approach to veterinary medicine known as "The Biological Approach to Healing." Regarded as a highly effective advancement in veterinary medicine, three primary modalities are used in addition to traditional clinical treatments:

Adult Stem Cell Therapy is helping to ensure a bright future for veterinary medicine. This relatively new and incredibly promising therapy helps the body regenerate itself with bone marrow-derived autologous stem cells. These non-embryonic adult stem cells are extracted from bone marrow then expanded into large numbers to treat a wide variety of injuries. Hyperbaric Oxygen has been available in the human medical field for quite some time, but was not available for horses until 2000 when Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center installed the first chamber for horses.
