Laura Cotter
Laura C. was the busy manager of a Santa Ynez horse rehabilitation clinic when she was diagnosed with lymphoma in May of 1996. Today, she's still the busy owner of a Santa Ynez horse rehabilitation clinic, and her lymphoma is in remission. Along with undergoing standard chemotherapy treatment under the direction of her oncologist, Dr. Fred Kass of the Santa Barbara Cancer Foundation, she became a regular user of Platinum Performance Granular during her illness. "I had a very large mass in my stomach, the size of a football," Laura C. explained. "I heard several options about what I could do, and my doctor decided I should go on chemotherapy immediately." She credits Platinum Performance with keeping her energy levels near-normal during her grueling five-month chemotherapy sessions in 1996. Platinum Performance is a nutrition supplement based on Omega-3 fatty acids, and containing proteins, vitamins and minerals, originally developed by well known Santa Ynez equine veterinarian Doug Herthel. Laura C. was already using Platinum Performance in the diets of the thoroughbred race horses sent to her ranch clinic for rehabilitation after injury and surgery. She decided to take the granular supplement after learning of her illness, based on what she'd seen it do for the horses in her care. It was her first session of chemotherapy that prompted her to begin daily, regular use of Platinum products. "I had my first chemo and I felt awful, just wiped out," Laura explained. Her doctor had placed her on one day of drip chemotherapy, followed by 11 days of drugs taken orally, followed by a few weeks of rest and then another session of chemotherapy. The horsewoman didn't want to let go of either her business or her life during chemotherapy. After talking to Dr. Herthel, whom she had worked closely with in horse rehabilitation, Laura C. began taking Platinum Performance Granular formula daily, and Platium Performance minerals, in pill form. She took them throughout her chemotherapy, from May to November of 1996. "I lost all my hair, but I went through chemo and I hardly missed a day of work; it couldn't have been more than two days." "I did everything," she said. "I went to Hong Kong. I went to Kentucky on business," she said. She astounded her doctors by not taking or using any of the prescription drugs usually given to counteract side effects of the powerful chemotherapy. I never did take any of the medications for side effects of chemotherapy, she stressed. "My doctors couldn't believe it. But I never had any of the nausea, the diarrhea, the constipation. I did get tired during chemotherapy," she admitted. "But I just kept going." Her Santa Barbara oncologist did not urge her to use Platinum or conduct a formal study of its effects. But, "He told me, 'Whatever you're doing, you keep doing it,'" she said. In November, 1996, she finished her chemotherapy. And her doctors declared her lymphoma in remission. "It went from being football-sized to the size of peas," she explained. "I still have CAT scans every three to four months. And it's still there; my doctors tell me it's not something that you ever completely get rid of. But it is in remission." The horsewoman has continued her hectic schedule at her horse rehab clinic. And she has continued her daily use of Platinum Performance Granular. She doesn't credit all of her chemotherapy success to Platinum. "I do have a high tolerance for pain. I'm a strong person, and I've got strong faith. I told myself that God must not be finished with me yet, otherwise he wouldn't have given me this opportunity," she told herself during her chemotherapy. She also made sure she ate a healthy diet including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables during her cancer treatment. But she does credit Platinum supplements for helping her weather chemotherapy with enough energy to maintain her daily work and home life at close to normal levels. During chemotherapy, she took one to four teaspoons of Platinum Granular every morning, stirred into her orange juice. "I never could take it at night; it would give me so much energy I'd stay awake, even during chemotherapy," she said. Now, three years later, she still takes one to three teaspoons of Platinum Granular every morning, in her orange juice or cereal. "I can tell the days when I miss it; I feel like I have less energy," she said. Laura C. has since sent Platinum Granular to her friends, and told plenty of people how she feels about using it. "I have a friend who was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and I sent some to her. And she tried it, and she called me and said, 'I feel like I have energy again. You don't know what it feels like to have energy again,'" she said. "I don't know if it works for everything or everybody, but I think it was a tremendous help for me," she said. She says Platinum Performance Equine is still working for the horses in her care. Horses sent to her ranch for rehabilitation after injury or surgery showed faster muscle healing, better muscle tone and better coats when placed on Platinum feed. "They look wonderful before they're ready to do anything race-wise," she explained. "It was unbelievable as far as how the horses were doing with it, compared to the horses who were without it," she said. "Instead of taking 60 to 90 days for the horse to recover, you're looking at a recovery time of about half that," she said. "It's 30 to 60 days before they come back to a level where they can start working again and we're sending horses back to the race track where not that many years ago, you would have said that horse will never race again." platinum client profiles home
