Flick
A Horse Named Flick Enjoys Outstanding Performance on Platinum
The first thing you should know about Judy Carmel’s 10-year-old horse Flick is that he’s a thoroughbred racehorse. All thoroughbreds, according to horse history experts, trace their lineage to Barbary Stallions, which were brought to England after 1662 — from France via North Africa — when horse racing began to prosper in England.
Despite his excellent bloodline, Judy can tell you there’s a lot more to Flick’s health than superior genes. She calls it Platinum Performance.
Flick was one of Judy’s first racehorse. She bought him in England as a promising 2-year-old whom she describes as “pure athlete and pure heart.” Over the next few years of training and racing, Flick had a “few problems, here and there,” says Judy. But for the most part, he was pretty healthy. About four years ago, a torn suspensory nearly finished his racing career. In fact, Judy considered retiring Flick anyway; he had already raced longer than most horses ever do.
But first she needed to get him back to health. Flick went off to Alamo Pintado clinic where Dr. Herthel placed him on a pre-surgery diet of Platinum Performance Equine and performed a bone marrow transplant. Post-op, Flick continued on the granular as well as other healing nutrients in the Platinum line.
Judy says within weeks of returning from the clinic she noticed that his coat looked thick and shiny. After a year off from racing, Judy also noticed Flick was very unhappy lolling in the pasture. He wanted to race; he needed to race. After recovering completely from his injury and doing more work with a trainer, Flick went on to run 10 races that year, placing first in one race, second in another and third in three others.
Following that race season, Judy sent Flick back in for another bone marrow transport and back out to pasture. After six months off, she could see again that he was miserable. With coaxing from Dr. Herthel she decided to get his leg scanned and see if could handle some more racing. This past year, after coming out of this second brief retirement, Flick ran his Lifetime Best in his first start back. He was beaten in the second race, but only by five lengths. Even more amazing, he came off the track without any sign of exhaustion. Recently, he raced another $50,000 claiming race, though Judy rests easy knowing that at his age he’s pretty much claim-proof.
Today, Flick maintains a steady diet of Platinum Performance Equine, and takes Hemo-Flo, Myo-Vet, MSM and Glucosamine Sulfate supplements. He also continues to enjoy robust health. Judy says he’s happier than ever and looks absolutely beautiful. He not only continues to sport a handsome coat but gallops like a youngster.
Judy, who races and breeds other thoroughbreds, says she has all her horses on Platinum Performance. Recently, her 3-year-old Holdthehelm (Helmsman-Shanade) suffered a serious injury after cutting his leg on the track this past year. He went immediately to intensive care at Alamo Pintado, was placed on mega-doses of the entire Platinum equine line, and was back on the track in 10 days. Recently, Holdthehelm was nominated to the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown comprises the Kentucky Derby on May 4, the Preakness Stakes on May 18, and the Belmont Stakes on June 8. She credits his quick and full recovery to pre- and post-op Platinum.
