Buellton, Ca. (April 2008) Dedicated to improving equine health, performance and longevity through therapeutic nutrition and education, Platinum Performance, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the newest “Glass Horse” CD-ROM. Under development for four years, The Glass Horse Equine Colic CD is the third in a series of digital, three-dimensional interactive programs, designed to benefit veterinarians and veterinary students, and as a result the horse community at large. The Glass Horse Equine Colic CD includes interactive models, photo-realistic 3D animations, simulated rectal exams, video segments, and narratives that make learning the equine gastrointestinal tract easy. The models reveal normal as well as abnormal anatomy, and can be manipulated to view the organs from various angles. This enables the viewer to gain a topographical appreciation for equine abdominal anatomy, and aids in visualizing and effectively understanding the abnormalities that lead to 28 different diseases. “The Glass Horse Project” is an ongoing collaboration among renown veterinary educator, Dr. Jim Moore, an AAEP 2007 Distinguished Educator, and Milne State of the Art lecturer at the 2001 AAEP Convention, three incredibly talented 3-D graphics artists, Thel Melton, Flint Buchanan, and Jared Jackson, and an amazing instructional designer, Mac Smith. Two other outstanding veterinary educators, Dr.Nat White and Dr. Michelle Barton, joined the team on this project. This group’s talent and desire to help veterinary students improve their understanding of equine anatomy and colic, resulted in a CD that includes a variety of animations showing normal and abnormal structures. The accuracy of the models and information presented is incredible, drawing on information in anatomy texts, dissections, drawings and multiple years of experience as veterinarians. The 3-D interactive programs on The Glass Horse Equine Colic CD module include detailed normal anatomy, 28 disease animations, a primer about evaluating peritoneal fluid samples, rectal exam simulations, a video showing the diagnostic workup of a horse with colic, and representative images of the diseases that can be identified by ultrasonography. An accompanying bonus disk includes a comprehensive e-book and image gallery. To get people more actively involved in learning and increase their retention of information, the team incorporated the latest interactive programming tools that weren't available when the first module was created. Dr. Moore says the new Equine Colic CD "makes the original Glass Horse GI CD obsolete." The project collaborators hope the Glass Horse programs will ultimately help people see “what an amazing feat of engineering the horse is.” "Every equine practitioner should have a copy of The Glass Horse Equine Colic CD," says Platinum Performance President, Mark Herthel. "It's is a cutting-edge client education resource that can help veterinarians explain conditions and procedures on their laptops, in the field, or in the clinic. Images and videos can be used to enhance client education." A simplified Horse Owner version is also available for veterinary clients. In April and May, Platinum Performance is sponsoring three real-time demonstrations of the CD, led by Dr. Moore. These free Webinars will showcase the new CD's features, its improvements over the original Glass Horse GI CD, and will be interactive (via chat), allowing viewers to post questions to Dr. Moore. He will address and demonstrate the answers during the Webinar. "We are excited about sharing this new technology with veterinarians who may have older Glass Horse CDs or who have never seen it," says Herthel. "This one has 10 times more content and capabilities. We felt a live demonstration of the software, on the web, would be an excellent way to communicate the features of the new CD." The Webinar will be held on three different dates: April 24 at 8pm CST; May 7 at 7pm CST, and May 29 at 6pm CST. Veterinarians may register at www.platinumvet.com to be part of the Live Webinars. Order a copy of The Glass Horse Equine Colic CD at www. platinumperformance.com or call Platinum Performance Toll-Free at 1.800.553.2400 (Monday-Thursday 6am-5:30pm, Friday 6am-5pm PST).
